Australian Apprenticeships

Australian Apprenticeships

Australian Apprenticeships (also known as Apprenticeships and Traineeships) are a combination of training and employment.  Australian Apprentices can complete a nationally recognised qualification while gaining valuable experience in the workforce and, of course, earning an income.
Apprenticeships can be completed in over 70 industries with many occupations having an emphasis on the environment.  Examples are in the agriculture, landcare, waste management and tourism sectors.
In addition to the above areas, an environmental focus is also becoming a component in a broad range of occupations, such as the traditional trade areas of plumbing, energy and building.
Australian Apprenticeships are available to anyone of working age.  You must hold Australian Citizenship, or a visa that allows you to work for the duration of the apprenticeship or traineeship.
You can undertake an Australian Apprenticeship through several pathways, including while you are still at school, as a school-leaver, when re-entering the workforce or as a change of career.
Australian Apprenticeships offer:

  • A great way to get a head start in a chosen career
  • Paid work and structured training that can be on-the-job, off-the-job or a combination of both
  • ‘Competency based’ not ‘time based’ training, meaning you may complete your training faster
  • Full-time or part-time employment and training options
  • A pathway to a nationally recognised qualification and skills which provide the basis for further education and training over the course of your working life

JOB HUNTING
Finding an Australian Apprenticeship is like searching for any job.  You will need to look in the newspapers and online job sites.  Employers may also recruit staff directly, so you can approach employers who may hire people in the occupation in which you are interested.
