Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Karara operates an iron ore mine and associated infrastructure in the mid-west region of W.A.
The operation is designed for a +30 year mine life and production of 8Mtpa. It comprises a long life and world-class magnetite deposit; dedicated rail infrastructure; and an integrated train load-out/ship loading facility at our Geraldton port operations. Karara is breaking new ground with the development and ongoing operation of the first significant iron ore mine in the mid- west.
We require an Environmental Advisor to join our team in Perth. You will be responsible for providing support in all aspects of environmental management and compliance by implementing and assisting to continually improve Karara Mining Limited (KML) Environmental Management System (EMS) and performance.
Implement the EMS and assist in continually improving KML’s environmental performance.
Maintain the Environmental Obligations , Risk and NPI/NGERS Registers.
Undertake the annual environmental workload plan and conduct reviews of monitoring programs.
Assist in undertaking risk assessments, incident investigations and audits (field and regulatory).
Qualitative environmental data analysis to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for improvements.
Undertake various Environmental Reporting to meet environmental compliance (eg. NGER, NPI, DER, DMP, OEPA).
Coordinate with the site team to review environmental documentation to maintain compliance and onsite implementation.
Provide technical environmental advice and support to external and internal stakeholders.
Coordinate and supervise environmental consultants and contractors.
Facilitate and support approvals, site sustainability and community initiatives and innovation projects.
Assist in delivering environmental presentation, meetings or workshops.
Key individual requirements;
Tertiary qualifications in Environment or relevant discipline (EMS knowledge is desirable).
Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of environmental legislations and compliances.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in NGER, NPI, DER, DMP and OEPA.
Minimum 3 years relevant experience, preferably including operational mining industry experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), and the use of initiative.
Ability to travel to site for field based activities, as required.
