Managing Consultant - Ecology

 

EcOz Environmental Consultants is the Northern Territory’s largest and the Top End’s longest established locally-owned environmental consultancy.  EcOz started in 1990 and the company provides a broad range of environmental services to a diverse range of clients from our Darwin and Alice Springs offices. EcOz has four divisions: Approvals, Ecology, Rehabilitation and Water.

We are looking for a Managing Ecologist to be based in our Darwin office.  The role primarily involves working across a variety of projects supporting environmental impact assessment, ecological assessment and rehabilitation monitoring.  Document production, review and quality control is an important part of this role.

The successful candidate will have:

A degree in Environmental Science or related discipline;

A high level of experience in fauna and flora survey and assessment;

A high level of written and verbal communication skills;

The ability to travel away from home for field work; and,

Current driver’s license

Desirable attributes include:

Consulting experience;

Practical and working knowledge and understanding of relevant NT and Commonwealth legislation and guidelines;

GIS skills (preferably in ArcGIS) for map production or spatial analysis

Additional information;

The ecologist will get the opportunity to work on projects in northern and central Australia.  EcOz works on a suite of projects from describing the broad environment (eg vegetation mapping) to distinct questions such as the occurrence and management of threatened species.  Some specific projects we are currently working on:

  • Classification of historic rehabilitation to determine rehab success of different treatments/age classes
  • Conservation assessments including habitat condition and description (often requiring field verification)
  • Reviewing camera trap images and mammal identification
  • Determining rehabilitation completion criteria through field survey
  • Threatened species survey
  • Management effectiveness assessment
  • Weed management and threatened species management plans
