Quito Zoo is a project of Fundación Zoológica del Ecuador (the Zoological Foundation of Ecuador), a nonprofit. The Zoo focuses on education and conservation and their current campaigns include the endangered mountain tapir and the Andean Condor, critically endangered in Ecuador with fewer than 50 wild condors left in the country. The Zoo is successfully breeding condors with plans to reintroduce the offspring to the wild. There are various opportunities for volunteers to help, both at the Zoo and on the Condor Conservation Project.
