Biodiversity Australia Pty Ltd is a national environmental management consultancy based on the Gold Coast. We conduct wildlife, ecological, vegetation, and other biodiversity management projects throughout Australia. We are looking to fill the position of Project Manager for the Fauna and Habitat Department to work on our projects based in SEQ.

About the role

The role involves being responsible for managing the day to day operations and projects of the Fauna and Habitat Department. The departments primary service is fauna spotter/catcher, management plan development, threatened species surveys, client advice and liaison and general wildlife management. The role will require working with clients over a mixture of sectors including residential and commercial land development, transport and linear infrastructure, mining, utilities, and defence.

This involves a mixture of field based and office work, including the tasks listed above plus business development proposals preparation, scheduling and logistics. In this role you will work closely with the ecology department to collaborate in the management of threatened fauna and flora in relation to vegetation clearing and bulk earthworks.

The role would suit a highly experienced fauna spotter/catcher or environmental consultant who is looking to increase their technical ecological and management skills, while actively contributing to animal welfare and conservation.

The role is based in South East Queensland with the potential for travel (FIFO/DIDO work) and is offered on a full time basis.

Skills and experience

Requirements for the role include demonstrated experience in:

  • Wildlife handling and restraint;
  • Aquatic/terrestrial fauna management experience;
  • Experience in conducting fauna habitat surveys;
  • Identification of native flora and fauna;
  • Experience in report writing and data collection/ management;
  • Experience in GIS mapping; and
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal legislation.

You must possess the following credentials:

  • Construction industry safety induction card (White Card);
  • Driver's license (manual);
  • Venomous snake handling certification (Preferred);
  • Tertiary education in wildlife management, conservation and land management, ecology/biology, environmental science or animal related studies (Preferred);
  • Experience as a fauna spotter/catcher or in an environmental consultancy will be highly regarded.
