There’s a certain feeling you get from working at Monash University. It’s the feeling that you’re a part of something special. Something significant. So if you’re looking for the next chapter in your career, it’s here. You’ll be given the opportunity to challenge yourself, build on your skills, and make a significant contribution to a workplace that’s filled with energetic and inspiring people. Talent thrives here – and so do truly satisfying careers.
Monash Sustainable Development Institute is leading the AU$54 million interdisciplinary action research program: Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments (RISE). RISE is a randomised-control trial (RCT) of a new water-sensitive approach to upgrading water and sanitation services in informal settlements across Makassar, Indonesia and Suva, Fiji. Working with communities, governments, local leaders and partner institutions, RISE is co-designing location-specific solutions that integrate green infrastructure, such as constructed wetlands, to strengthen the whole-of-life water and sanitation cycle. The success of the RISE program will be measured by the health and well-being of residents – particularly children under five years of age – and the ecological diversity of the surrounding environment.
As the RISE program enters into its third year of implementation, additional project management capacity is needed for this next exciting phase of the program’s rollout. This phase will see RISE move from ‘start-up’ mode to ‘consolidation’ mode, with the aim to consolidate and solidify program systems, procedures and delivery mechanisms for increased efficiency, coherency and impact. A key focus in the coming two years will be the delivery of 12 civil works projects to upgrade 12 RISE informal settlements (6 in Fiji, 6 in Indonesia).
The team is seeking a talented individual with extensive project management experience, a proven record of working in interdisciplinary teams, and postgraduate qualifications in international development, engineering, architecture, urban planning, business or related discipline to join their dynamic team as the Project Manager – RISE Build.
Reporting to the RISE Program Manager, the Project Manager – RISE Build will project manage the implementation of the build components of RISE, form part of the core RISE team within MSDI and will play a leading role in project delivery, particularly of in-country urban planning, co-design, and civil works delivery activities in Fiji and Indonesia; and will deputise the RISE Program Manager, who manages the overall RISE program. Significant travel to Fiji is required for this role.
Your outstanding relationship management and consulting skills will be critical to this role, as you work closely with stakeholders based in Indonesia, Fiji and Australia. You will have strong proficiency in planning and organisational skills, allocating resources and ability to work independently in an action-research environment to achieve program targets.
Prior work experience in Fiji and/or Indonesia and knowledge of Monash University’s rules and regulations regarding project implementation including finance, procurement and human resources is a strong advantage.
If you enjoy working in a dynamic environment, building strong relationships and working to contribute to real, substantial change, then this role presents a brilliant opportunity for you.
This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash Jobs".
