An exciting opportunity has become available for an Environmental Waste Management Engineer to join Councils growing Landfill team. We're seeking an enthusiastic professional with knowledge and experience in environmental waste management to ensure our facilities are safely operating in line with best practice. In this role you will support Councils direction by assisting the Coordinator Landfill in the management of Councils landfill, transfer station and resource recovery facilities.

You'll be responsible for:

Assisting the Coordinator Landfill to develop a strategic approach to the management of waste and resources at Council managed landfill, transfer station, and resource recovery facilities.

Planning, organising resources, monitoring and reporting on all landfill, transfer station, and resource recovery operations at all Council-managed facilities in line with Councils strategies, policies and procedures whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory, environmental and legislative requirements.

Supervising staff, contractors and consultants involved in the operations of Council's landfill, transfer station and resource recovery facilities in line with Council requirements and

Providing specialist advice and contribute to the continuous improvement of the operation of Councils landfill, transfer station and resource recovery facilities. The resource recovery facilities are open between 8:00am to 4:00pm seven (7) days per week (including weekends and public holidays) for the acceptance of waste loads brought in by cars and trucks.

The successful applicant will be based at Council's Broadmeadows Office and will be required to be flexible as you will be working between Bolinda Road Resource Recovery Centre and Riddell Road Landfill.

Key Skills:

  • A high level of understanding of current best practice environmental and waste management principles and practices relating to the operations of landfill, transfer station and resource recovery facilities including relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated ability to prepare reports, briefings, submissions and relevant correspondence. This requires the ability to investigate, source, collate, manipulate and present accurately detailed data to justify reporting and decision making.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and supervising employees, contractors or consultants to meet or exceed operational and environmental business objectives preferably in the Waste Management industry.
