Duties

AFMA is seeking suitably qualified individuals to fill various roles of APS 6 Senior Management, Policy and Licensing Officers within the Fisheries Management Branch and Fisheries Information and Services Branch.

These positions assist the managers to develop and implement management arrangements, policies, programs and advice for Commonwealth fisheries that pursue AFMA’s legislative and organisational objectives. The Licensing positions are also responsible for the delivery of day-to-day licensing, quota management and data services for the Commonwealth and Torres Strait fisheries.

The primary focus of these positions is to assist the managers in the delivery of ecologically sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient services to the government, the fishing industry, and other key stakeholders on behalf of the Australian community including:

  • Implementing ecosystem-based fisheries management.
  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing management measures and operation programs
  • Assessing applications in accordance with fisheries legislation and policy.
  • Developing policy and program advice to relevant Ministers, the AFMA Commission, the AFMA Executive, Senior Managers, relevant MAC and/or RAG, the fishing industry, government agencies, research agencies and the public/community on fisheries management matters.
  • Building and sustaining positive relationships with team members, stakeholders, and clients.

Eligibility

  • AFMA staff are employed under the Australian Public Service Act 1999. All applicants must be Australian citizens.
  • The successful applicant must hold or have the ability to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.
  • The occupant of the position must have the ability to undertake overseas or interstate travel.
