The City of Brimbank is located in the western and north-western suburbs of Melbourne, between 11 and 23 kilometres west and north-west of the Melbourne CBD. Brimbank is culturally diverse and currently experiencing currently experiencing strong residential, industrial and commercial development.
Brimbank City Council is looking for passionate and experienced Biodiversity Referrals Officer to join our Environment Team, to help achieve our community aspiration to live sustainably and engage with a healthy and protected natural environment.
This position is based out of our offices in Sunshine, Victoria. The position is permanent part-time, 24 hours per week (0.66FTE), Band 6 under the Brimbank City Council Enterprise agreement.
Reporting to the Conservation Coordinator we are seeking dedicated people to optimise the conservation of our natural environment through the planning and development process.
Working collaboratively across the organisation and with key stakeholders, you will;
Review proposals for development on both private and public land, and provide informed biodiversity planning assessment and advice to avoid and minimise impacts.
Provide biodiversity assessment and technical advice regarding Council projects and works to embed urban ecology principles.
Council is looking for a professional with experience of land use planning systems, polices and processes in Victoria, and Federal legislation and policies as they relate to the natural environment. The successful applicant will be able to read and interpret planning applications to provide timely and legally compliant advice and have sound knowledge of local biodiversity values within the municipality.
Experience working within Local Government is preferred but not mandatory.
