Environment Advisor - NSW



Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) plays a critical role in the transport supply chain and in the overall economic development of Australia. We manage and operate over 8500 kms. of track in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland, making us one of Australia's largest rail network owners.

The Inland Rail Programme is a 1710km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The programme includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of: viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges.  More information relating to the project can be found here: http://inlandrail.artc.com.au

About the Position

The Project Environment Advisors' primary objective is to oversee the development and preparation of the environmental approval documents to support legislative approval of projects of the Inland Rail Programme, providing the appropriate environmental management through design and construction of projects. The role is responsible for development of strategies, policies and procedures to support the assessment of environmental impact assessments incorporating the delivery required of project approvals.

Additionally, they will deliver the development of environmental management plans, technical environmental support and management during feasibility and construction.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate experience and capability in the following key areas:-

  • Management of environmental impact assessments for major infrastructure projects in NSW, both brownfield and greenfield
  • Knowledge of relevant State (NSW) and Federal environmental legislation including project approval process
  • Management and delivery of the environmental scope of work during design and construction incorporating monitoring, auditing, compliance, incident management and reporting
  • Ability to work with senior management, build support for an environmentally compliant work culture and negotiate with stakeholders on complex environment and policy issues

Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or an environmentally related discipline is considered an essential requirement.

High level communication skills, as well as the ability to build and sustain relationships will see you excel in this key position.
