Environmental Field Officer



Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) plays a critical role in the transport supply chain and in the overall economic development of Australia. We manage and operate over 8500 kms. of track in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland, making us one of Australia's largest rail network owners.

The Inland Rail Programme is a 1700km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The programme includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of: viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges.

About the role

The Environment Field Officer support the environment team in maintaining compliance, delivering environmental performance and undertaking reporting for the delivery of the project. The initial scope of these roles will involve supporting the Parkes to Narromine Project, the first part of Inland Rail to progress to construction. These roles will be based out in the field along the alignment of the project in Parkes, New South Wales and will operate on a 10 days on, 4 days off roster.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have a proven experience managing the environmental, sustainability, social performance and cultural heritage scope of work during the construction phase of large projects (client/proponent side experience will be highly regarded). You will also possess a strong understanding of construction contract management and environmental and sustainability budgets, coupled with knowledge of environmental compliance legislation in a construction environment. The ideal candidate will have strong contractor management and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven ability to build support for an environmentally compliant work culture, particularly via influencing contractor behaviours. Your skills and experience will be complimented by tertiary qualifications in environmental science or a related discipline.
