The Victorian Environmental Water Holder (VEWH) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team and contribute to one of Victoria's most significant environmental programs. This is a role for someone who can bring together science, data, planning and stakeholder engagement to support environmental water management across Victoria.

In this role, you'll work with waterway managers, Traditional Owners, community stakeholders and government partners to plan, coordinate and evaluate the use of environmental water. Your work will directly influence environmental outcomes across Victoria's rivers and wetlands while helping to deliver lasting benefits for communities and ecosystems.

This role could be right for you if you:

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and can effectively translate complex information for different audiences.
  • Are comfortable working with data, reporting systems and information management processes to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Want to contribute to state-wide environmental outcomes through evidence-based planning and decision-making.

Key elements of this role are to:

  • Provide direction and contribute to planning for use of the Water Holdings, including assessment of seasonal watering proposals and development of the seasonal watering plan and seasonal watering statements, to inform the prioritisation of watering actions across the State.
  • Contribute to the management of the Water Holdings, which will include assessment of water use, trade and carryover options, and providing input to the development of delivery plans, operating arrangements and metering plans.
  • Contribute to water accounting, reporting and information management processes, ensuring accurate and timely analysis of environmental water use and outcomes to support decision-making and program accountability.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with delivery partners, stakeholders and communities, facilitating effective communication and coordinated environmental water management across Victoria.
  • Participate in community consultation processes, including attendance at environmental water advisory group meetings.
  • Support the ongoing development of the environmental water program by contributing to strategic projects that are led by the Victorian Environmental Water Holder or policy reform projects that are led by the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action (DEECA) or other program partners.

Specialist / Technical Expertise / Qualifications

  • An appropriate tertiary degree in science, engineering or natural resource management or a related field, or an equivalent accreditation or working/industry experience is desirable.
  • Understanding of water entitlements, environmental flows and ecology in Victoria: Demonstrates knowledge or experience of the water allocation framework and management of environmental flows, catchment management and water ecology in Victoria.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating projects, managing information and reporting processes, or supporting complex programs involving multiple stakeholders is highly desirable.
