Gould League has an exceptional opportunity for a General Manager ready to give back to the not-for-profit sector. Gould League, established in 1909, is an independent not-for-profit organisation in Victoria with a long and proud history of environmental and sustainability education. We help teachers boost the impact of their science and sustainability curriculum, connect students with their natural world and empower the community with positive messages and practical actions to live more sustainably.

As the sole onsite managing staff member, the General Manager is responsible for the functioning of all Gould League operations across all sites.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Staff management
  • Strategic, operational and financial planning and management
  • Business development including philanthropy/fundraising
  • Special project supervision, coordination and delivery
  • Targeted marketing
  • Maintenance

Key Selection Criteria – Qualifications and Experience

Must Have:

  • Tertiary qualification in at least one of these fields:
    • Science, Environmental, Conservation or Sustainability Fields
    • Business or related discipline
    • Education
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic, operational and financial planning and management of an organisation, including the development, monitoring and review of programs, systems and processes
  • Experience in supervising, managing and providing leadership to direct reports

Great to Have:

  • Additional qualifications in:
    • Science, Environmental, Conservation or Sustainability Fields
    • Education
    • Business or related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic relationships with a strong track record in philanthropy, partnerships or fundraising
  • Delivery of education programs in early childhood, primary, secondary or specialist education
  • Experience working with teachers and understanding of the Victorian Curriculum
  • Experience working for not-for-profit organisations
  • Experience liaising with a Board of Directors
