Thamarrurr Development Corporation (TDC) located in Wadeye, NT, is seeking a Healthy Country Ranger Manager to lead our dynamic team of Land and Sea Rangers.
The Thamarrurr Rangers are based in Wadeye and look after the natural and cultural values of a large area of traditionally owned lands and coastline in the Western Top End of the Northern Territory.
Our responsibilities include the culturally appropriate management of fire, feral animals, and weeds on the land, and we play a compliance role in monitoring recreational and commercial fishing in our sea country. We also facilitate access and help to protect sacred and cultural sites in the region. All our activities are guided by the aspirations and values of the Traditional Owners.
The Ranger Manager’s role is to ensure these “caring-for-country” activities are undertaken in a safe and effective manner and to assist the Healthy Country Manager in tailoring the activities to align to community expectations.

Main duties include:
- Support, supervise and mentor Ranger team members to build upon capacity and skillsets and foster independence and leadership.
- Supervise and lead the ranger teams in weekly planning and implementing seasonal activities.
- Liaise and consult with Traditional Landowners and other stakeholders to develop strategies and work plans for Ranger programmes.
- Implement and oversee Rangers Indigenous Advancement Strategy programmes and report on activities, KPIs associated with the programme.
- Coordinate and prepare reports on works carried out under various Thamarrurr Ranger projects and programmes across the region.
- Ensure and be accountable for the efficient and effective management of all assets and organisational resources
- Be prepared to travel regularly around the Thamarrurr region, when required, including occasional overnight camping, as well as represent TDC at events with-in the NT
To be successful you’ll have:
- A demonstrated high level of knowledge and understanding of contemporary natural and cultural management theory and practice, in North Australian context.
- Proven capacity to organise, plan and manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships/partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience and commitment in indigenous capacity building through mentoring, training and development.
- Proven ability in the use of computer applications – especially MS Office.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and proactively with a broad range of people, from Aboriginal Traditional Owners to Government Organisations and other industry experts.
- Resilience, patience, cheerfulness, and a willing “can-do” attitude.
- Strong understanding of WHS policies and procedures and actively contribute to a safe and respectful workplace.

Essential Licences/ Clearances
- Hold minimum current Class C NT driver’s Licence
- Ability to obtain and maintain Northern Land Council Work Permit
- Ability to obtain National Police Clearance
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre card)
