We have an exceptional opportunity for a highly capable ecologist to join our dedicated Forestry team. You will provide leadership and support for the ongoing development and implementation of a contemporary and cost-efficient ecological program to support forest harvesting and quarry operations in South East Queensland.

Qualifications and/or relevant experience in botany, zoology, ecology or other relevant discipline and leadership of ecological programs in a production environment would be desirable.

Operating from within the Forestry business group in the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, you will oversee the ongoing development and implementation of a contemporary and cost-efficient ecological program to support forest harvesting and quarry operations to comply with legal and other obligations in relation to biodiversity conservation and ecological matters within an acceptable level of risk.

To achieve the outcomes required by this role, you must be able to:

  • Support management in overseeing the ongoing development and implementation of a contemporary and cost-efficient ecological program to support forest harvesting and quarry operations to comply with legal and other obligations.
  • Provide high-level ecological services and advice to identify and protect flora and fauna during forest harvesting and other operations, including:

              o Surveying, locating and identifying key flora, fauna, habitat and communities requiring protection through remote and field-based mechanisms
              o Developing and maintaining effective management strategies for key species and communities potentially impacted by operations
              o Developing and maintaining databases and other tools and resources to support the management of ecological values
              o Coordinating or undertaking significance tests under the EPBC Act and protected plant flora surveys to meet Nature Conservation Act requirements.
              o Contributing to operational planning.
