Base salary range: PO2 $72,806 - $85,075 pa + entitlements

This position is part of a partnership between Northern Land Council, Central Land Council, Indigenous Land Corporation and NT Parks and Wildlife, and you will work closely with all of these organisations, including Traditional Owners, Rangers, and IPA Coordinators and other stakeholders within the regions.

The Project Officer will coordinate the planning and implementation of the Indigenous Land Corporation Savanna Fire Management Program across the Judbarra/Gregory National Park and surrounding Aboriginal Land Trusts (ALT), and contribute to coordinating on the ground fire activities on the Waanyi Garawa and Garawa ALTs.

The successful applicant will possess qualifications in cultural, natural resource management/community development, fire ecology and management and/or extensive practical experience in providing direction and supporting land and sea management projects in partnership with Aboriginal people.

Knowledge of the context in which the NLC operates and understanding of Aboriginal society, culture and challenges, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people is required, as is a commitment to developing, training and empowering people in a cross cultural context.

Applicants should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write reports and engage with diverse stakeholders, as well as sound project administration, finance management, and computer skills.

Experience and knowledge of Aboriginal people in the Victoria River District and Barkly/Borroloola region and previous experience in land management in Northern Australia’s tropical savanna regions would be highly regarded.

Significant travel is involved so possession of a ‘C’ Class driver’s licence and the ability to drive 4WD vehicles safely is essential, as is the willingness to live and conduct field work in remote locations.
