Robson Environmental, established in 1990, is a major Canberra environmental consultancy within multi-disciplinary teams covering asbestos and hazardous materials, environmental assessment & remediation, and occupational hygiene and workplace safety. We are looking for science graduates, to participate in a one-year graduate program, with a guaranteed ongoing job at the conclusion of the program. This program will suit people who love science and who enjoy highly varied work in a fast-paced, well-supported environment. Robson Environmental offers dedicated career pathways in a range of disciplines including occupational hygiene, hazardous materials, asbestos assessment, environmental science, contaminated land and groundwater management and work health and safety.
As part of the Graduate Program, you will use your degree and discover its real-world applications while rotating through each of our sections. Over the course of the program you will spend time in each of our three sections, learning what they do and gaining on the job training and experience. Your successful completion of the program will give you with a broad understanding of Robson’s capabilities and an ongoing job with opportunities to work in a range of roles.
Hazardous Materials and Laboratory Services:
In the Hazardous Materials Section you will be involved in surveying, sampling, analysis and reporting on a wide range of hazardous materials in the built environment, including asbestos, lead, polychlorinated biphenyls and ozone-depleting substances, and will gain the skills and experience to qualify as a Licenced Asbestos Assessor.
You will also become a trained and approved Fibre Count analyst and a trained and approved asbestos Fibre Identification analyst under Robson’s National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accreditation.
Occupational Hygiene and Work Health and Safety:
In your time in our OH and WHS Section you will be involved in research, sampling, analysis, reporting and project management, working in a wide range of areas including mould and bacteria assessments, indoor air quality assessments, noise surveys and exposure assessments, and particulate and gas sampling for hazardous dusts and gases.
Environmental Assessment and Remediation:
The Environmental Assessment and Remediation section works with a wide range of well-known clients on small and large contaminated land and waste management projects throughout Canberra and surrounding regions. Work undertaken in the EAR section includes NSW & ACT waste classification assessments, preliminary and detailed site investigations, tank excavation assessments and groundwater monitoring.
Our structured training and development program includes opportunities to gain nationally recognised qualifications such as a Certificate IV in WHS, Construction Induction Training (white card), Asbestos Awareness Training, the BOHS W504 Asbestos and Other Fibres Certificate, as well as participate in regular in-house training run by our qualified consultants with many years of experience across a wide range of industries. Across all sections you will also learn accountability, organisation, time management and responsibility as well as technical skills, and you will gain experience using a wide range of instruments and equipment.
As a graduate you will be expected to work collaboratively and learn from other members of the teams in which you are working as well as maintaining Robson's high level of performance, quality, and safety. You will also be expected to be flexible to adapt to changing tasks during the working day due to the highly reactive nature of the industry. Overtime/time in lieu is paid at penalty rates.
- Tertiary qualifications in Science or other suitable disciplines
- Full unrestricted driver’s license
- Ability to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines
- The ability to travel interstate and work flexible hours including overtime when required
- Able to obtain security clearances, and a satisfactory health check
- Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Experience working in a laboratory
- Experience working in the field
