Rural Environment Officer (100384)

*$72,169 pa (Band 5) plus super * Temporary Full Time to November 2019

Hume diverse rural areas cover over 25,000 hectares of Green Wedge land. These areas feature significant agricultural, landscape, cultural and biodiversity assets.

We are seeking a suitable qualified and experienced individual to work with our Land and Biodiversity team to build the capacity of rural landowners to manage their land sustainably, including supporting both agricultural and environmental assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering incentive programs such as Council's Agricultural Land Use Rebate, developing engagement programs and materials, developing strong partnerships with diverse land managers including the community and government agencies and providing accurate face-to-face guidance to landowners and land managers on addressing rural land management issues.

The role also oversees implementation of Council's pest animal management program on Council-managed reserves, and assists with residents enquiries about pest plant and animal management on public and private land.

Key Skills

  • Sound understanding of sustainable land management practices, including managing productive landscapes, best practice invasive plant and animal control and the protection and enhancement of environmental assets such as native vegetation and waterways.
  • Experience in capacity building with landowners, land managers and / or community groups to educate, support or guide them in successfully managing agricultural and environmental assets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills including a demonstrated capacity to liaise with landholders, land managers and groups from diverse backgrounds.
