Multi-billion-dollar potential for Western Australia's carbon farming industry

A new carbon farming pilot project across the Southern Rangelands could signal the start of a new multi-billion-dollar industry for Western Australian pastoralists.

This week the State Government gave approvals for WA pastoralists to participate in the Commonwealth's $2.55 billion Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) and upcoming reverse auction.

Green sea turtle Yasi returns seven years on to lay more than 700 eggs on Fitzroy Island

Yasi the green sea turtle has made a long-awaited return to Fitzroy Island off Cairns, laying seven nests of eggs from which more than 700 baby turtles have hatched.

Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre marine biologist Jen Moloney said Yasi was believed to be between 60 and 80 years old, and last came to nest on the island in 2011 just before Cyclone Yasi struck.
